Human existence in the modern world is characterized by a constantly increasing number of threats of various natures: environmental disasters, technogenic disasters, terrorist attacks, etc. The list could be continued. The Institute of Civil Defence is aware of the necessity of promoting the education of key specialists of the emergency services in the essential skills to deal with civil emergencies.The Institute of Civil Defence provides fundamental professional training that is aimed to promote a culture of safe behavior and to develop eco-humanism.

20.03.01 Technosphere Safety

Mode and duration of study: full-time (4 years), part-time (5 years)

  • Life Safety in Technosphere
    This program enables students to organize and manage occupational safety; to rescue people in emergency situations; to operate data processing systems; to examine safety (check the compliance with norms) of equipment, technologies and projects in power industry, oil and gas sector, metallurgy , mechanical engineering and other industries; to design safety products for environment and people in industries.
  • Protection in Emergencies
    This program equips students with skills to organize monitoring of hazardous man-made objects; to carry out feasibility study activities aimed to prevent and control emergencies and disasters; to develop documentation on Civil Defence and Emergency Situations; to carry out work on protection in emergencies; to analyze technology-related risks, to improve sustainability of economic entities in emergency situations; to exploit security facilities; to develop projects on population and territories’ protection in emergencies, etc
  • Environmental Engineering Protection
    The completion of the program enables students to ensure safety in areas with a high density of industrial and economic activities and anthropogenic impact on natural systems; to promote safety environmental management; to protect and remediate the environment in all spheres of activity and rest of the Russian population, as well as on the international level.

20.03.02 Environmental Engineering and Water Use

Mode and duration of study: full-time (4 years), part-time (5 years)
This program aims to prepare students for planning and surveying, manufacturing and managing, research activities in the field of improvement, reclamation and protection of lands of various purposes. Students will acquire skills to create multi-purpose water supply systems; to protect and restore water bodies; to carry out water supply, drainage and waste-water treatment; to irrigate areas. Students will be provided with knowledge in the field of environmental development and creation of ecological infrastructures on different-purpose lands based on innovative technologies and techniques, and following the principles of efficient use of natural resources and sustainable development.

07.03.04 Urban Planning

Urban planning is a technical and political process concerned with the use of land, protection and use of the environment, public welfare, and the design of the urban environment, including air, water, and the infrastructure passing into and out of urban areas such as transportation, communications, and distribution networks.
The program includes the following three key units:

  • city planning;
  • urban design;
  • urban management of territories’ development

27.03.04 Engineering Systems Management

The completion of the program enables students to design, to investigate, to produce and operate control systems and means for the industrial and defense sectors, the economy, the transport sector, agriculture and medicine. This program equips students with skills to create modern research and design software and hardware tools aimed to monitor, to implement technical diagnosis and industrial test of automatic and automated control systems.

20.04.01 TECHNOSPHERE SAFETY (Information Technologies for Technosphere Safety)

Mode and duration of study: full-time (2 years), part-time (2.5 years)
Program overview: This program is focused on training engineers who are well versed in modern computer and information technologies used for ensuring technosphere safety. Upon completion of the program students are able to optimize measures aimed at ensuring technosphere safety, to solve practical tasks concerning technosphere safety, to calculate socio-economic effectiveness of protective measures and to develop business plans and programs for ensuring safety.

20.04.01 TECHNOSPHERE SAFETY (Fire Safety)

Mode and duration of study: part-time (2.5 years)
Program overview: This program is aimed to provide future engineers with theory and practice of design, manufacture and operation of fire explosive facilities. The focus will also be on training experts in the field of fire safety management and on equipping them with skills to respond appropriately to emergencies and to interact effectively with units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations; as well as on re-training (or skill upgrading) of the existing staff of enterprises responsible for fire safety. As a part of the program students conduct research in the field of fire safety, fire risks analysis and management; development and implementation of modern firefighting tools and equipment, development of fire-detector systems and management of human evacuation at fire.

Program overview: This program aims to provide students with knowledge of human security in the modern world. It equips them with skills to form a comfortable technosphere for human life and activity, to minimize anthropogenic impact on the environment, to preserve human life and health by using modern technical aids, as well as forecast and s and control methods.

20.04.01 TECHNOSPHERE SAFETY (Electric Power Generation Safety)

Mode and duration of study: full-time (2 years), part-time (2,5 years)
Program overview:This program is aimed at training professionals with a sufficient level of theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of manufacturing, industrial and environmental safety management. Upon completion of the program students are able to make appropriate emergency response, to uphold interests of supervisory agencies, to manage units of the Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM), to meet challenges concerning development and implementation of alternative energy sources. Special focus is on the world experience in the field of traditional, renewable and alternative energy.

Mode and duration of study: part-time and evening studies (2.5 years)
Program overview: This program is aimed to provide future engineers with theory and practice of design, manufacture and operation of electric power facilities and electric systems used in the oil and gas sector. The focus will also be on training experts in the field of power-producing, industrial and environmental safety management who are able to use appropriate measures of reaction to emergencies and are ready to interact effectively with units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations; as well as on re-training (or skill upgrading) of the existing staff of enterprises working in the energy and oil and gas industries; the existing staff of regional, urban and municipal enterprises exploiting electric power systems and networks for purposes of safety enhancement.

Mode and duration of study: full-time (2 years), part-time (2.5 years)
Program overview:This program is aimed to train specialists who are able to forecast hazardous working conditions, to assess opportunities for improvement of working conditions and to suggest engineering solutions for ensuring safety of working conditions at different industries including oil and gas industry. Modern production requires highly qualified personnel in the field of industrial safety and protection of labor, thus this Master’s program pays special attention to modern requirements for organization of industrial health service taking into account the specificity of production.

20.04.02 ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AND WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT (Environmental Impact Assessment, Protection and Restoration of Environment)

Mode and duration of study: part-time (2.5 years)
Program overview: This program is aimed to provide students with knowledge of statutory documents, procedures and documentation related to environmental impact assessment of objects of environmental engineering and water resources management. Students will learn to carry out expert assessment of the impact of human economic activities on the natural environment. The completion of the program equips students with skills to work with special computer programs for calculation of the level of environmental pollution and for assessment of the environmental impact; to fulfill engineering procedures in the field of environmental engineering and water resources management; to develop technologies aimed at protecting and restoring of natural environment in industrial areas. Special attention is placed on study of eco-technologies applied to manufacturing and air and water treating equipment. The program involves research on environmental biotechnologies development.

Program overview: Modern design standards and level of project management related to environmental engineering and water resources management require such engineering solutions that ensure their environmental safety, aesthetic appeal and cost-effectiveness. This very approach underpins this Master’s program. Being interdisciplinary, students are taught by the leading specialists and researches in the field of ecology, engineering, biology, economics, architecture and design. The research aspect of the program is first and foremost concerned with environmental, architectural design and economic support of projects related to environmental engineering, landscape design, green design of eco systems, including living environment.

Program overview: This program aims to prepare specialists who are equipped with knowledge of the regulations, procedures and documentation in the field industrial and consumer waste storage and disposal. The completion of the program enables students to use special software for determination of the level of environment contamination and environment impact assessment; to apply modern technologies for industrial and consumer waste recycling. Students will acquire skills to develop innovative methods and technologies for waste recycling and obtain the knowledge of eco-technologies and air and water purification equipment. This Master’s program involves research activities on the development of environmental biotechnology.
