Tim Herdon has twenty-two years of experience in teaching, training, school management and writing teaching materials. For much of his career he has taught English in England, Spain and Japan, working in both private and public education. From 2001 to 2005 he was director of the American School of Valencia, a Nursery to 12th Grade international school. Recently he has worked on CLIL training projects in England, at the Norwich Institute of Language Education (NILE), and in Spain. He is based in Valencia, and now works as a freelance education consultant.

10.30–11.30 Мастерская1 «The self-aware student: enhancing self-assessment in the learning process»

In this session we will explore how a student who is able to realistically assess his/her own performance might be better equipped to engage in learning processes. We will look at a variety of classroom activities designed to support this competence. We will also consider how iTools, a new digital whiteboard function, can enhance the learning process in the classroom.

11.40–12.40 Мастерская 2 «Learner autonomy: what it is… what it isn’t… and what we can do about it in exam classes».

A lot goes on in the name of «learner autonomy». In this session we will try and separate myth from reality. We will identify practical ways we can further support our learners when preparing for exams, by focussing on how we can use the classroom experience itself as a stimulus for language learning.

12.50- 13.50 Мастерская 3 «English for careers: a professional approach».

We will start with an exploration of what it means to be a modern professional and analyse how a modular approach to the syllabus might be more appropriate in contemporary ESP provision.
